Praxis III Assessment Procedure 1. You will be contacted by an individual assigned to conduct your Praxis III assessment. The assessor will want to establish a date and time with you for the Praxis III assessment that is mutually agreeable to both of you. 2. You received two documents during your initial Praxis III Orientation at the beginning of the year - Class Profile and Instructional Profile. You need to complete these two documents and make them available to the assessor when they arrive for the assessment.
3. The assessment is in three parts: Pre-observation ( 30 minutes), Classroom Observation (a full class session), and Post-observation Interview (30 minutes). For both of the interview parts of the assessment, you will need a place where you and the assessor may talk without being disturbed. Someone may need to cover your class, or other arrangements to be made for your students while you are involved in the interviews. 4. When you and the assessor establish the date and time for your assessment, it is a good idea to inform your school principal. 5. Prior to the assessment, you should take time to review the Praxis III: Classroom Performance Assessments Orientation Guide. In that guide is a complete description of the 19 criteria on which you will be assessed, including the scoring rubrics that will be used during the assessment process. You may wish to make copies of the pre and post observation interview forms. Review the questions. The assessor should ask the same questions in the same order as they appear on the forms.
6. At the completion of the post-observation interview, the assessor will ask you to sign a Praxis III observation Confirmation Form that contain places for signature by both you and the assessor. You will be asked to check that all three of the events (Pre-observation Interview, Classroom Observation, and Post-observation Interview) occurred.
7. The purpose of the interviews and classroom observation is to collect evidence. Once the assessor has completed the assessment and left the school, they will use that evidence along with the scoring rubrics found in the Orientation Guide to assign a score of between 1.0 and 3.5 to each of the 19 criteria and to write a summary statement for each criteria based on the evidence collected.
Scoring System to Change for PRAXIS III Performance–Based Assessment for Entry Year Teachers There will be a change in the way the scores for PRAXIS III are calculated. This change becomes effective September 2005. A passing score for the performance-based assessment has two requirements:
The Entry Year Teacher (EYT) may receive no more than one score below 2.0 on any criterion item in Domains B and C. For example, if an EYT received the following scores on the criterion items in Domains B and C, the teacher would not pass. The overall passing score was achieved and the minimum domain scores were achieved; however, because there are two scores below 2.0 on the criteria in Domains B and C, the EYT would not pass. Example: A. (2.5) (3.0) (2.0) (2.0) (3.0) B. (2.5) (2.0) (1.5) (2.5) (2.0) C. (2.5) (3.0) (1.0) (2.0) (2.5) D. (2.5) (3.0) (2.0) (2.5) Overall Score: ___44.0____ 2. Requirement Minimum Domain Scores: Domain A 10.0 Domain B 10.0 Domain C 10.0 Domain D 8.0
Teachers who were registered in an Entry Year Teacher program in 2004-2005 and who did not pass the Praxis III assessment in spring 2005 will be re-assessed using the scoring system that was in place in 2004-2005. All newly registered Entry Year Teachers in 2005 must meet the new PRAXIS III scoring requirements. Note: As an Entry Year Teacher you have three opportunities to successfully complete the Praxis III assessment within a two-year period.
