Ms. Jeanette and Encouragement

As Becky Bailey explains on page 167 in her book; There’s got to be a better way,

“Rules are predetermined laws that are enforced each and every time they are broken.  When a child breaks a rule, some consequence will occur: the teacher is drawn to action.  Rules are to be enforced consistently with specified consequences.”

Our rules need to match our classroom.  If the class is singing a song that asks the children to give a pinky hug then the rule: “Keep your hands and feet to yourself” is going to be broken.  Jeanette explains how she has rewritten her rules so they are consistent and therefore enforceable.

Wendy’s Job board:

Each child in the classroom should hold a job.  These jobs contribute to the functioning of the classroom and the health of the school family.  Wendy explains how she uses the jobs to accomplish 2 things, helping the child feel successful, and achieving individualization goals for each child.  Attached are the charts as shown by Wendy.  You can adapt these forms to fit the climate of your classroom.
