ThermoFisher ScientificThe field has been set for the second annual Southwest Ohio Thermo Fisher Scientific STEM Challenge using K’NEX plastic construction materials. Butler County Educational Service Center coordinates this free event scheduled for Friday, Feb. 22 from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM at the Harrison High School Sports Arena.

29 four-person teams of junior high school students from Cincinnati Christian, Edgewood, Hamilton, Harrison, Middletown, Royalmont Academy, St. Ann Catholic School, Talawanda and Three Rivers will design nanorobots, present their research and be judged by employees of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Company in Cincinnati. All 29 teams will compete for top awards between 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM, with awards for the top-performing teams announced beginning at 11:30 AM.

The STEM Challenge competition is based on solving a selected real world problem, in this case, finding a cure for cancer. Teams are asked to collaboratively find ways to stop the spread of and kill cancer cells.
