This will be a working session using the foundation of the Differentiated Instruction framework. It will include information related to content, process, and product, with an emphasis on flexible grouping. This will be a collaborative session with teachers working individually and in groups and/or teams. Please bring your curriculum, topics/units, and your electronic device.

Advanced Placement: An Opportunity for Gifted Learners October 4, 2018

The Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides students with the opportunity to earn college credit, and can serve as a platform for gifted learns through academic rigor and enrichment opportunities.

Depth & Complexity (K-8) November 13, 2018 
8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Depth and Complexity is a tool recognized to scaffold learning and increase rigor where gaps exist. It can be used effectively to facilitate and customize students’ learning. This happens by creating an environment whereby students will venture deeply into complex understandings through the application of knowledge, skills, and experiences. The icons (content) have been designed to challenge all levels of learners and empower them to take ownership of their learning. Please bring your curriculum, units of study, and electronic device. This will be a session where you will be able to create, design, and collaborate with others.

Gifted Film Fest December 11, 2018 
8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Participants will watch popular films featuring gifted students from these underrepresented groups such as “October Sky” and “Stand and Deliver” and/or “Finding Forester” to see these techniques in action. Additionally, participants will read articles about working with these subgroups, discussing the effect of different techniques and creating goals and action steps on how they can implement their learning into their classrooms.

Social & Emotional Behaviors (K-8) January 15, 2019 
8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Many times, students who have superior and advanced cognitive skills, do not have highly developed social and emotional skills to accompany them. This session will focus on understanding some social and emotional needs of students, addressing the impact of under-developed skills and fostering impactful ways to assist them.

Gifted Creative Thinkers (K-8) March 5, 2019 
8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
This session will include an overview of ODE’s guidelines and some practices used with students who have been identified as Gifted Creative Thinkers. It will include creating an environment whereby students’ creative thoughts, skills, and talents are able to be developed and maximized. Teachers will then be able to facilitate so that students will be empowered to extend and expand their creative-academic knowledge base and expression. Please bring your curriculum, units of study, and electronic device for the product development time of the session.

Gifted Film Fest II May 2, 2019 
8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Participants will watch popular films that focus on the social and emotional needs of gifted students, such as "Gifted" and "Little Man Tate", so as to see the obstacles that may be in the way as educators and family try to find solutions to address these necessities and positively impact student learning. Additionally, participants will be reading articles about the social and emotional makeup of gifted students, discussing the effects of different techniques to use with these students and creating goals and action steps on how they can implement this learning in their classrooms.
