blogContinuing the tradition of excellence in the Butler County Educational Service Center (BCESC) Early Childhood Program, the BCESC is happy to announce the Amanda Elementary Head Start preschool's 5-Star rating by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) was renewed. Amanda Elementary is located in the Middletown City School District.

Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) is a single measure of quality for preschool classrooms in the State of Ohio. The preschool and Head Start programs at Amanda Elementary received a renewal of the highest rating in SUTQ, which is five Stars. The ODE Consultant monitored the program's use of child data to inform instruction, staff education and ongoing training, parent and community engagement, and monitored health visits for children. The purpose of SUTQ is to encourage high quality preschools in Ohio that support the whole child so they are ready for kindergarten and beyond.

Mike Lolli, Principal of Middletown Preschool Programs, says the BCESC preschool and Head Start programs directly benefits the children in Middletown, OH and Butler County, OH.

"I am proud of the work done by our preschool staff at Amanda Elementary and all of those at the ESC who help continue to make our preschool a warm, caring and educational preschool! Our students and families will continue to benefit from the hard work and team approach done by everyone," said Lolli.

The BCESC has partnered with Middletown in educating young children for nearly a decade. The BCESC Early Childhood team and the services they provide help all preschool and Head Start students meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of each child. In the 2017-18 school year, the BCESC, Middletown Community Foundation, and Middletown City Schools launched a campaign to add 90 new preschool students to the program, which was exceeded.

"Congratulations to the Amanda Elementary team on their renewal rating of 5-Stars by the Ohio Department of Education! We are proud of our continued collaboration with Middletown and also of the commitment and effort of our entire preschool team in providing high quality preschool education services," said Sissy Rasmussen, BCESC Early Childhood Special Education Director.
